The Hidden Gem of Disney Springs: Wine Bar George ‘Greek Weekend’ Review 🇬🇷

If you’ve been following my Disney food adventures, you know that Wine Bar George is consistently my top recommendation for quality at Disney Springs. But earlier this month, they leveled up with the return of Greek Weekend at The Basket (their quick-service window).

I stopped by to see if this limited-time “pop-up” menu lived up to the hype of a Master Sommelier-run establishment. Here is exactly what I tried and why you need to keep this event on your radar.

The Menu Standouts: Spanakopita and Gyro

While many people flock to Disney Springs for the cookies or the poutine, the real “pro move” during Greek Weekend was grabbing these authentic Mediterranean bites:

  • Traditional Gyro ($16): This was a generous portion of well-grilled lamb and beef served in a pillowy pita. While many Disney Springs snacks can feel overpriced, this felt like a high-quality, authentic meal that actually justified its price point, especially with that fresh house-made tzatziki.
  • Spanakopita (2 for $9): These were the star of the show for me. Flaky, buttery phyllo dough stuffed with a rich spinach and feta filling. They were served warm and had that authentic “house-made” crunch that you rarely find in a quick-service setting.

The Perfect Pairing: Kir-Yianni Xinomavro (2022)

You can’t go to Wine Bar George without talking about the wine. To stay on theme, I paired my meal with the 2022 Kir-Yianni Xinomavro ($15).

If you aren’t familiar with Xinomavro, think of it as the “Nebbiolo of Greece.” It has that wonderful “spicy Pinot Noir” energy—bright red fruit notes with enough tannin and acidity to cut right through the richness of the gyro and the feta in the spanakopita. It was an incredibly sophisticated pairing for a “window service” meal.

The Showstopper: Authentic Baklava

While the savory dishes were incredible, my absolute favorite dish was the Baklava ($5). This wasn’t your average mass-produced dessert; it was layers of paper-thin, buttery phyllo dough packed with spiced nuts and drenched in just the right amount of honey syrup. It was rich, crunchy, and exactly what you want when visiting Disney Springs. If they ever put this on the permanent menu at The Basket, it would easily become a top-five Disney dessert for me.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth It?

Even if you missed this specific weekend, Wine Bar George’s commitment to rotating, high-quality events is why they stay at the top of my list. Whether you’re a local or planning your next vacation, this is your reminder to check their seasonal offerings!
