Today marks a bittersweet, historic milestone for Walt Disney World. Today, July 5th, marks the absolute final day of operation before the rotating theater goes dark for a massive, multi-year modernization update. This means the iteration of the show that generations of fans grew up with—featuring its original decades and the iconic 1993 New Tomorrowland finale—are being retired forever.
To preserve this indispensable piece of Disney heritage for future generations, I stepped inside the theater to record the complete final performance. Much like my previous efforts to archive the final days of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Dinoland U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, this video serves as a permanent historical record of Walt Disney’s personal masterpiece before it changes for good.

An “Advisor’s Cut” Audio Experience
Because strict copyright restrictions prevent the use of the attraction’s theme music on digital platforms, I wanted to turn a technical limitation into an exclusive, high-value asset for our travel community.
In place of the standard theater rotation music, I have recorded a series of historical and logistical briefs. As the theater moves between acts, you will get a deep-dive breakdown into:
- The 1964 New York World’s Fair: How Walt Disney and GE engineered the revolutionary 35-foot ring theater to handle historic crowds.
- The 1975 Florida Relocation: The logistics behind moving the pavilion to Magic Kingdom and the short-lived era of a completely different theme song.
- The 1993 Overhaul: Why the current “modern” finale was built, how it attempted to predict the 21st century, and its place as the longest-running stage show in American theater history.
Progress Never Stops
While it is difficult to say goodbye to the decades we know so well, the spirit of this attraction has always been about looking forward. Our team will be tracking the engineering updates and logistics of this massive overhaul very closely over the next several months.
Rest assured, the moment the modernized version premieres in 2027, we will be in the theater on day one to bring you a full strategy guide, breakdown, and review.
